Origin: Togo, Nigeria, India, Malaysia, & Senegal
Germination: Seeds take 2 to 4 weeks to germinate. The seed first emit a long tap root (often over 2 feet - 60 cm), requiring a deep pot.
Leaf: Palmate
Trunk: smooth, grayish
Fruit: Black when ripe, orange flesh...6 inches long, 4 inches in diameter 15x10 cm), about 6 pounds (3 kg). Oblong.
Seed: 4 inches long (10 cm). roundish, covered with fibers.
The Palmyra Palms are dioecious, only the female Borassus aethiopumtrees bear fruit. The palm trees are tapped for juice. In some regions, the technique either involves the lateral portion of the young stem and does not kill the tree. In other African regions (as in Senegal), the trees are often tapped to death after several months. The fruit is eaten, as are the flowers and the root.
B. aethiopum are native to Africa and prefer well drained soil and do not take cold very well.

Pozdrav svima, donio sam nekoliko sjemenki ove palme(usput, nekoliko sjemenki znači puna najlon vrećica :sretan:) sa puta u Bangkok. Može li mi netko pomoći kako ih posijati, koji uvjeti?Hvala puno

Prema onome što pišu osobe na http://www.rarepalmseeds.com/pix/BorAet.shtml (http://www.rarepalmseeds.com/pix/BorAet.shtml) koje su klijale ovu palmu izgleda da lako klija. Neki pretpostavljaju da namakanje u vodi nekoliko dana ubrzava proces klijanja. Potrebna je velika duboka posuda jer odmah razvija jak korijen. Izgleda da i nije nešto preotporna na zimu, vjerojatno kao starija je. Mislim da bi bila poželjna zona 9b na više

Koliko sam ja čitao može pretrpin niže temperatura ali ne tolerira dulje hladno razdoblje (čitaj naša zima).

An update. First leaf starts emerging through plumule! :sun:

Another update, apparently plant has TWO plumules. In many pictures first plumule is not obvious because probably it usually remains entirely buried. But I do not mind about it, because it remains more depth in the pot for root development and preservation of moisture, since all pot-medium consists entirely of pumice.

Closing the season with a most recent pictures. I do not think that it will promote more sinificant growth in the following months. It still stays outdoors and remains healthy.

Na, to early yet. Plant is only on first leaf of its life (hopefully not a short one). I think that it was feeling very comfortably in pumice on the scorched terrace of my home during summer. Therefore it produced a wide first leaf. :sun:

I remeber well your case. I think it is time that you must unearth it! Pot is very narrow and perhaps plumule is trapped somewhere beneath surface. I really mean it that you should perform this operation and try to free plumule. With perlite and pumice it should be an easy task: start removing medium from the top until you reach the formed bulb.

Davno sam klijanca prebacio u veliki pitar,korijen je bio ravan,ništa nije bilo zamotano.Rado bih i ja provjerio što je sa korijenom,ali me je strah sada to raditi,dolazi zima,nemam nekakvo toplo i svijetlo mjesto gdje da stavim tako velik pitar nakon presađivanja.Ostat će u plasteniku do proljeća pa što bude-bude :thumb_up:

Trava, nebi bila losa koja slika :mrgreen: Moram priznati da nakon malo vise citanja o toj palmi postaje mi prilicno interesantna. Samo nisam uspio pronaci sadnicu u Europi.
