Danas sam kupio vrstu Guave u bot. vrtu u Zagrebu, pod nazivom Psidium araca.
Na jednoj stranici sam otkrio da se radi o starom nazivu za Psidium guineens koja je isto jestiva kao i Psidium guajava.

Plodovi su otpali kada su bili oko 10 mm, ne znam zasto

prosle godine fino cvjetala, ali nije bilo plodova

Psidium araca iz bot. vrta danas na Zg. natkrivenoj terasi.
Ne izgleda kao da joj smetaju nočne temperature blizu nule.

Prošle zime je bila u polu-grijanom prostoru sa malo svjetla i izgubila je svo lišće i dio stabljike.
Neznam gdje da je stavim ove godine, možda na malo hladnije..



Dubrovnik, imaš li sliku te koja je cvjetala?

Has anyone ever collected there Psidium fruits? I have already harvested this year's production from my two little trees. Made marmelade twice and gifted away some kg's. :mrgreen:

In Sicily people hve already started experimental cultivation for commercial purposes! Marmelade is very aromatic and suitable for use in pastryand especially for pasta frolla. It lifts this pastry to a much higher level  :food:

I have two plants growing closely to each other. Both have been raised from seed. They form rather shrubs than trees (easy collection of fruits) and never heard before about any need for self pollinating cultivars, like with Feijoa, so I think that they are by default self pollinating. One only detail, the white cultivars, which are cultivated mainly in Egypt being this country the main guava producer in the mediterranean, are imo considerably more cold sensitive than the red one.

Ante, could you please translate for me this recipe? "Guavu kupujte služeći se - nosom. Zrela guava ima cvijetni miris, na dodir je samo malo mekana i ima tanku, blijedo zelenu do lagano žutu koru. Dodajte je različitim kolačima (sjemenke su jestive! ) ili lagano pirjajte u vodi da dobijete gusti umak. Odlična je za napitke - mješavina od polovice banane, polovice zrele guave, šake jagoda, 1,2 dl niskomasnog mlijeka (može i sojinog) i nekoliko kockica leda savršen je osvježavajući energetski napitak." I have drunk a similar refreshment , which was an import from Egypt and it was tasting really good.

The best tool for buying guavas is your nose  :mrgreen: Ripe guavas have floral scent, slightly soft on touch and has thin pale green to slightly yellow skin. Add it to various pastries (seeds are edible), or boil lightly to get a thick sauce. its great for bewerages- mix half banana, half of ripe guava, fistfull of strawberries add low fat or soy milk, few ice cubes and U ll get refreshing energetic drink ;)
