Some time ago i read an articel about people who wanted to change the palms at the riva for domestic trees.
How about these plans, are they still thinking about that?
I think it would be a big loss.

Greets.

Mate these idiots are a small but growing voice in the community. If they was ever to pull down the palm trees on the riviera i would chain myself to a tree before they could cut it. The reason why they have not put domestic tree's is due to the fact that they create problems in auterm when the leaves fall down thus covering the reviera with leaf debris. Palm tree's dont produce dead leafs so that is a big plus for the cleaning aspect of things. If Split was to cut down its palm trees it would basicly be the death of Split itself.

That's one crazy man Duško Kečkemet repeatedly talking about how palms shouldn't be planted in split...
I remeber there was a talk about palms again when riva was renovated but can't remember any details.
I doubt someone will cut or move palms, only new ones will be planted :icon_lol:

The problem i think is that we are going backwards in a sense that we actually give time to people like Dusko Keckemet. Instead of that we should ask for more promotion towards the planting of palm trees around Split's neighbourhoods (kvartovi) on a large scale. I hope in my lifetime this is achieved  :icon_mrhappy:

I'm glad to hear, that's the riva i see evey year since i was born, these palms belong there.
I think this allready was discussed on a topic but are these filifera's on the riva real or do they have some robusta blood in them.
If you ask me those Phoenix palms would me much bigger if they had some more room and water at the base.
How old are the oldest palms at the riva?

Greets.

According to this (link) (http://gi-zasplit.org/novitade/57-splicanipisu/679-duko-kekemet-o-palmomaniji-na-jadranu) they started planted palms on Riva in 1920-1927. Palms were brought from nursery in Vis.

Citat:
Na splitskoj su obali sađene šezdesetih godina devetnaestoga stoljeća, a uklonjene 1920., kada je riva, od 1920.-1927., zasađena palmama iz rasadnika na Visu.

Many towns on adriatic (on the coast and on the islands) have palms that came from Vis. As i read, including the ones in Hvar.

I like the road from magistrala to downtown Split when you pass neighbourhoods like Pujanke.
That road is lined up by nice clustering bushes of C.Humilis.
They always get water when i drive by.

lol Split Green Men (parkova nasada) take care of that Road as it is one of the first things people see when they enter split. I wish they adopted that programe all over split and start this mass palm produceing paradise. My main man Pivi is going to start off the trend  :sun:

Probably young, i don't know how big. Maybe some of them had some descent size.

Let's face it, the coast just wouldn't be the same if mulberry trees or walnuts were planted instead of palm trees. Fact of the matter is that only a severe infestation with red palm weevil could conceivably convince the city authorities to cut the palm trees down, but even then they would probably be replaced with other palm species, species resistant to red palm weevil.

I remember in the past that there were more bigger P.Canariensis on the Riva (at least one), were these infected by the red palm weevil?

No red palm weevil confirmed in croatia, for now.

The palm trees you saw were probably effected by the Riviera's renovation works so they had to be replaced.

I was more thinking about 10 years ago.
Did there were any weevil attacks then?

No weevil attacks have been reported in Croatia so far, so no, it couldn't have been weevils. Maybe it was some construction work or some other reason they were replaced.

Mate, we don't have red weevil in croatia. Not now, and even less 10 years ago.
Palms could die of many other reasons.

Im glad these weevils are not in Croatia and neigbour countrys, offcourse there can be a lot of reasons palms die.
I noticed some sort of trachy at the Riva, is dat a Fortunei? the trunk is very slim for a fortunei (even when it's striped), it looks happy in the warm climate.

Greets.
