I reckon that the reclinata x dactylifera hybrid will look like this one. It is even nicer in reality than in picture because it combines glaucous and yellow on a relatively thin trunk :0648:

Some of my hybrids loureiroixhanceana. Some have more intense trait of roebelenii and are also slower in growth, while others rsemble more the loureiroi and are faster in growth.

Već je bilo riječi o ovom hibridu na forumu. Stari primjerci na Visu. P. dactylifera x canariensis ili P. canariensis x dactylifera.

Trebalo bi raskotiti ovog križanca,pa ih dalje križati sa drugim phoenixima.Ima li ko sjemena?

Palma koja bi izašla iz tog sjemena bi vrlo vjerojatno bila "polukrižanac" tj. 75% kanarka i 25% dactylifera, budući da na Visu prevladavaju kanarke pa je gotovo sigurno da je taj hibrid oprašen peludom kanarke.

First sprouts of the reclinata x dactylifera cross. Seedlings have quite stiff leaves, about three times stiffer than the seedlings reclinata x roebelenii. They still grow inside the propagator, where it is quite moist and semi-shady. So I reckon that new leaves growing in full sun outdoors will be very hard textured.

End of growth season for my hybrid reclinata x roebelenii. It has spent first time whole season outdoors and still looks very gracile, a feature inherited from father (roebelenii) with soft, long, very linear pinnae. Very little 'hardening off' since exposure in the open air. Glad that I do not have another canary in the end.
Ante, you'd better take good care of the reclinata x roebelenii hybrid.

Hybrid fruits taste like genuine dates, nothing else to miss but just more flesh, although flesh is more than by other Phoenix spp, so I think only real difference is in size!!!

Fruits sweet but moderately fermented. Those are the first dates to reach maturity. Usually first dates are not good but then follows the maturation of rest dates in great numbers and they taste much better.

There is a suspicion that Minoans were exporting theophrasti pollen to northern Africa and plot thickens more as theophrasti genes had been found in the genome of north African varieties. Picture is from seal imprints found on Minoan pottery.
Besides it had been found in Knossos the word Ponikijo (Φοινίκειο) in linear B script, which was assumed to mean a commodity in powder form. But no more information was available. Under the light of described suspicion, we may be on to something new here!
