So, there is no active warming??Which was the lowest temperature???How many bounded days it were?

matko, what about your jubaea chilensis? that small one. if i remember corectly last year it survived outdoor with no damage at all,as a seedling. is it still alive and do you have some pic of it? i also have one small, next leaf should be the right one, about 2 to 3 years old. maybe it goes outside next spring.

As it can be seen, you have just temporary winter cover-roofing under your plants, plus some lights around them? Do you ever close the front side of that roofing construction with some sheets, blankets, or similar?

@Scalar, there is no active warming, just the christmas lights you see which give local warming. My absolute minimum so far was this winter about -9. I live close to the sea so my climate is much differend as it is some kilometers more inland (they had till -20degrC). I had some frost days, about 10 and most of the night temps were around -2 till -6degrC for one month. nowdays night temps are around 0.

@Damir, the little J.Chilensis is again without protection outside, picture made yesterday:

@Trava, thats a Dicksonia Antartica, he's doing great, especially because he had hunderds of bees in de head last summer, they digged it out so im a little bit worried if he's gonna survive. I dont have birds, that thing is for cats, i dont like them in my (or other) gardens so they can go out whenever they want trough a little door into the cage.Some times there is a little bird which comes in but they never got out again 

@Porat, sometimes i close the front part of it, if i get strong eastern winds in combination with rain/snow etc. Also i close it when the temps drop very deep like the -9degrC, the other side has just some bamboo so is always open (southwest part).

Excellent solution Mate.  If I understood, one of your trachycarpus is in the pot, it might be better if you planted it because of cold weather, frost...

Yonex i think you mean the J.Chilensis which is in a pot, its at the picture of the trachycarpus species at the right.
I also got some T.Fortunei seedlings in pot and planted all over my front and back gardens just to see who are strong.


About the J.Chilensis seedling in pot, if he gets trough this winter i will plant it in full ground in full sun and wont protect it for the rest of his life (unless they predict siberian frost).

Really good protection Mate. Efficient, and it looks nice also

Thanx, the hanging protection is from a party tent which fitts exacly, the roof is from 16mm polycarbonat, expensive stuff but once you have it you've got something good, its cristal clear so almost all of the sun gets trough.
