Comment: Of 50 Chamaerops humilis, 3 yrs old in 3-gal pots, 2 dead, others lost hearts but appear to be coming back. The Christmas freeze here in Sorrento was very hard and I recorded nearly 3 hours at between 14F and 16F.

Comment: A fairly large one with 5 suckers and about 2ft of trunk situated next to my deck and is pretty much surrounded by other plants in the center part of my house. It took 12°F without damage but was burned badly at 6°F. Newer leaves browned off to the petiole older less damage. The spear did not pull but was scarred when it emerged.

Comment: Temperatures very rarely below -5C, in average only few days per some years below -10C. Summer temps 20-35C, 7 y.o. plant now for 3 y. full time outside; winter protection by means of plastic foil mainly against wet/windy conditions and hardly gives cold prot.
