Very demanding of hot conditions to promote decent growth. In fact it likes hot and flooded! It produces in such conditions an extended root system, which reflects further on speed of growth. I doubt that it can grow well in european parts with not hot summers. It is tolerant of cool weather (but it does not grow at all), though I am not sure how cold hardy it is.
