his Brazilian Geonoma is unique in being amazingly cold hardy for a Geonoma- easily the most cold hardy of the genus, at least as far as anyone knows at this time... has tolerated temps as low as 19F without severe damage! Most Geonomas can't even tolerate temps near freezing! Sadly it is also one of the least ornamental... not to say it's an ugly palm, as it's not... fine, pinnate leaves on a thin, closely ringed stem... but no wild colors or wide, unsplit leaves seen in so many of the tropical Geonomas. Been growing in Southern California for years with few problems... other than being a very slow palm... it does not like much sun, nor does it transplant well.
